Here I've got several group photos at the Valley Temple of Chephren.
Boy the sun in Egypt is hot! You'll see several group members doing their best to find some shade while still listening to the story of this temple, it's construction and the mummification process. Maria made a great model for demonstrating the process of evisceration.
Seeking shade was not something that I had figured out yet. Rather like Hans, who as a preschooler didn't know to put his hands out to catch his fall, it didn't occur to me to seek shade when possible. By mid day I was really feeling the heat. Within a few hours of this photo, memories of heat stroke at Jesse James day's in Minnesota, September 2000, were at the forefront of my mind. I handled it much better this time around...thanks to Elaine for some headache meds and a lovely cold sprite at lunch.
The red granite columns came all the way from Aswan, shipped down the Nile. They are aligned with perfect precision. Amazing to this woman who can't even draw a straight line!
