June 4, 2007 Temple City of Karnak

Amenophis III, New Kingdom Pharaoh (1580-1085 B.C.) erected this giant red granite scarab. At this time Egypt was an empire, ruling from Nubia to the Euphrates. They did go into decline toward the end of the era, but had a resurgence during the reigns of Horemhab, Ramses II and Ramses III. The New Kingdom was an era known for it's art, the Book of the Dead, the use of bronze tools and of course, King Tut (White).

There is currently a belief that if you walk around this scarab a certain number of times you will gain luck...so, many people spent a great deal of time walking in circles at mid day in the 110 degree Fahrenheit weather ... Not me, I went and got a nice cold soda and looked at books in the coffee shop.
...maybe great wealth will never come my way, but neither did heat stroke! ...
